Mount Diablo State Park

January 21-22, 2006

Come on!  We are gonna hike up Mount Diablo for the best view of the Bay Area!!!  We will be car-camping at Mount Diablo State Park for one
night.

  

  We will leave early Saturday morning and return early Sunday
afternoon. 

This outing will depart the zoo on SATURDAY MORNING at 8:00 AM and return around 2:00 On Sunday.

 

All permission slips are due at the troop meeting on  Monday January 16th.

 

There is lots to do--don't miss this campout!
 

Activities:
1.  Hike to the summit of the best and highest view of the Bay Area.
2.  Free climbing at Rock City.  Lots of scrambling through rock
formations and wind caves.  Very cool.
3.  Excellent museum at the summit.
4.  If there is time, Mitchell Interpretive Center.
5.  Campfire

FOOD-

Pack a sack lunch that can be carried in a daypack.
Patrols
should plan a dinner and breakfast
Bring money for lunch on the way home


 

BE PREPARED-

Bring a daypack for a hike.
Boots suitable for hiking and rock climbing.
Each patrol should bring a few logs for the campfire.

 

What about the WEATHER???

Call 925-838-9225 for current weather conditions at the park.  Be
prepared for cool and possibly wet in any event.

 

Costs:  $10/per scout, $5 gas  for driver,  and $8 to buy your own lunch on the way home.

Directions-

  • Highway 680 to Danville;

  • take Diablo Road exit, then

  • 3 miles east to
    Mount Diablo Scenic Blvd.  This turns into Southgate road.
    Approximately 1/2 mile beyond the Park entrance is Boy Scout Rock (rope
    climbing),

  • another 1/2 mile up the road is Rock City (free climbing),

  • another mile up the road is the Buckeye group campground where we will
    be staying.
